Paul Yeatman rides to victory in his first race

24 riders

A good field of 24 riders fronted the starter in last Saturday’s third round of the Warragul Cycling Club’s summer series road racing.  Most riders were “really -stoked” to use an in vogue phrase, after witnessing Kathy Watts’ brilliant win in the women’s road race at Auckland earlier that. morning.

With perfect conditions and the adrenalin flowing freely. the stage was set for some best ever performances.

Winner Paul Yeatman, riding from the 15 minute second limit bunch, rode strongly throughout to come across the line two minutes clear of young Tim Moore with Ken Bolch finishing a few seconds back to third.  Fastest time honors were, shared between Paul Rowse and John Salton after judges deliberated for many minutes unable to Split the two in the big bunch finish.  Other good rides came from Sue Van Der Veen and Graeme Hanks with Sue improving her previous best time by at least five minutes, while Graeme was the driving. force behind the strong three minute bunch.

Current points standings in the senior racing sees Peter Finlayson retaining his lead with six points from last week’s winner Russ Walker on five.

The juniors also received good entries with Shane Dwyer taking the double honor of both first placing and fastest time.  Shane rode well to hold out co scratch rider Brett Williams in the sprint to the line.  Neil Parke had to do the job alone from the four minute mark but this didn’t stop him from putting up a great ride to finish third just one second in front of the unlucky. Troy Boote.

The juvenile aggregate sees Troy Boote and Brett Williams equal on eight points from Neil Parke seven, and Shane Dwyer four.
