Warragul cyclists enjoyed fine weather and light breezes for Saturday’s club race at Nilma North.

New riders Shelley Watson and Martin Hanks both made a big impression with fine performances, Shelley winning the senior race and Martin coming a fine second in the juvenile race.

The juvenile race was won in fine style by Matthew Miller off four minutes from Martin Hanks off 10 minutes with Dale Lester off two minutes coming in third.  Dale was lucky not to be disqualified for riding across the line ‘no hands’ and his helmet unfastened. Just as well your Dad was not there Dale.

Julian Kennedy and Travis Fromholtz sprinted for fourth place and judge Graeme Hanks was unable to separate them  Brett Williams a very promising juvenile rider, who has had many wins over the last few months found the handicapping a bit hard on Saturday and came in fifth.

The senior race was a tightly contested affair except for Shelley Watson’s runaway win.

Riders in the 12 minute bunch sprinted for second and   third   places,   with  young Tim  Moore being the victor over  Ian Fromholtz and Paul Yeatman.

Scratch men Jeff Thomson and John Salton sprinted for the real prize in handicap races, the honor of taking out fastest time.  John was the victor this time over his close rival Jeff.

Like many riders John Salton has heavy work commitments and has been getting up at 4.30 in the morning to train.  Bike riders are generally a very dedicated group of sports people.

The club urges all those riders who competed in the summer series to come and ride the winter races.

Races start at 1.30 pm at the Nilma North primary school on Saturdays, new riders most welcome.
