Brad Catches John

12/10/1991

With only one race left to run in the winter point score series, Brad Lester has drawn to equal first place with John Salton.  Both Brad and John have 86 points and with a graded scratch race next week, the two A grade riders are sure to have a great ‘hit out’ with each other.  Paul Yeatman has 80 points, Mike Coyne has 67 points and Brian Miller has 57 points.

Stuart Cuckson looks sure to take out the juvenile point score.  Stuart has 130 points and is leading from Brett Williams with 122 points and Travis Fromholtz 118 points.

In the 20 kilometre handicap race at Nilma North on Saturday, Brett Williams won and also took out fastest time.  New rider Murray Fenwick and Stuart Cuckson, both riding off the scratch mark, came in second and third respectively.  Aaron Nobelius, Brendan Stockwell and Brett Miller came in fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

In the senior, 50 kilometre handicap race Ian Miller (seven minutes) won from Tim Eerhard (eight minutes) and Graeme Hanks (six minutes).  Ken Bolch (six minutes) came in fourth, Brad Lester (scratch) fifth and fastest time, and Brian Miller (seven minutes) sixth.

Next week there will be a 40 kilometre scratch race for seniors and a 10 kilometre scratch race for juveniles.

The following week will be a picnic ride to Blue Rock reservoir starting at the velodrome.  Trophies will be presented to the winners and place getters in the point score series and also trophies from the trophy race held on August 3.  A barbecue will be available and the club will supply meat. Contact Brian Miller or John Salton for more details.

Racing at the velodrome will recommence this Wednesday.
