Kestle Wins Spring Series

05/12/1992

By Geoff Cuckson

Warragul Cycling Club member Wayne Kestle has won the 1992 spring series held at Warragul over the last seven weeks.  Wayne dominated the series with five wins and two fastest times out of his seven starts.  Brad Clarke took out second place, Brad has two wins and numerous placings.  Stuart Cuckson finished in third place only a few points behind Brad.

In the novice event of the spring series, Scott Keeble was a clear winner from Ben Fleming with Jason Boxall third, Ben Gumming fourth and Nick Delany fifth.

Because of very strong winds, Saturday s event was changed to a Criterium.  Wayne Kestle won the A grade event from Darren Spiteri with Phil Gallagher third and Aaron Nobelius fourth.  Both Darren Spiteri and Stuart Corkran tried solo breakaways but were bought back to the bunch after tiring in the strong winds.

Brad Clarke won the B grade event from Stuart Cuckson with Paul Yeatman third and veteran rider Wilf Tampaline fourth.

Scott Keeble won the novice event from Jason Boxall with Ben Fleming third and Matt McLean fourth.  Ben and Matt had a very exciting sprint with Ben just reaching the line ahead of Matt.

Rain on Friday night stopped any chance of racing at the velodrome.

Road racing will recommence at Burke St on Saturday, January 9 and hope fully the weather will have picked up by then.

Memberships are now due, see Graeme Hanks or Tim Eerhard for details.

Active Outdoor Sports, Warragul Cycles and Clover Health Goods donated spot prizes this week.  These sponsors, together with Drouin Cycles, have been keen supporters of the spring series and the Warragul Cycling Club thanks them for their support
