No Need For Warming Up In Hot Weather

31/01/2009

A/B Grade:(7x A, 2x B – 5 laps)

The first lap was ridden at an easy pace.  Half way along the Darnum Shady Creek Road, on the 2nd lap Thomas Sander attacked and Paul Yeatman tried to go with him but stayed in no man’s land.  The were but were caught not far after the start/finish line on lap 3. Coming into Darnum Shady Ck at the bottom of the hill saw Matt Kennelly fall in the deep gravel.  He retired from the race. On lap 4 Sander broke again, pretty much in the same place.  Callan Barker managed to get across, but the pace slowed at this point and the catch happened riding past the footy ground on the 5th lap. At about the same time Kane Walker and Shane Stiles attacked and had 40 seconds on the main bunch by the end of lap 5. This coincided with Yeatman being tired form all of the min attacks – at one point he was 50m off the back of the main bunch and looking in danger.  After some recovery time, he made his way back.  The two leaders sat up in the final lap and were caught passing the Darnum footy ground. Sander attacked again and nobody was eager to chase. Yeatman figured ‘what the heck’ and initiated the chase to bring Sander back and towed the rest of the bunch up to him. Along Sturrs Road, Simon Baxter attacked and was slowly brought back. Baxter attacked again in the home straight from the corner and was followed by Sander. Yeatman chose to sit on Sander’s wheel and got to see much of the field race past him and Sander up the final hill.

Results: Walker 1st, Stiles 2nd, Tristian Marut 3rd, Barker 4th, Thommo 5th, Yeatman 6th, Sander 7th and Barker 8th. This caused me to be passed by everyone but Baxter. I finished ahead of Sander in 5th.

C Grade: (5 riders – 4 laps)

James Lalor showed good form to oust Davie Ballie on the line.  He was followed by Neild Walker, Paul Kennedy and Peter Cruimp who suffered a flat tyre.

D Grade: (3 riders – 3 laps)

Despite being passed by A grade while they were on their 4th lap, the D graders had a good ride.  Steve Muggeride is performing well after being out of action for over a year with back troubles and came an easy 1st.  He was followed by Dave Axford and Tammy Patrick.
