Warragul Cycling Club Chosen for Documentary Film

The Warragul Cycling Club has been chosen by Melbourne based film makers, Waterbyrd Filmz, as the setting for a 75 minute documentary on Club Cycling in Australia.

After interviewing several metropolitan cycling clubs Waterbyrd Filmz chose Warragul Cycling Club due to its inclusive and welcoming nature, its diverse membership which spans all age ranges, its wide service offering of recreational, road and track cycling activities, and it’s passionate Committee who operate the Club on a voluntary basis.

The magnificent rural location and beautiful landscapes were a contributing factor and will feature prominently in the documentary.

The film makers vision is to show the audience the passion and motivations of ordinary Club Cyclists in Australia and to inform the general public about the organisation required to organise and run a multi stage road cycling event. With professional cycling receiving adverse media in recent years, this documentary will highlight the grass roots of what is a beautiful sport.

The documentary will follow six local Club Cyclists as they train for and race in the 2013 Gippsland 3 Day Tour, and event which occurs on the June long weekend. The documentary will and also follow the organising Committee behind the event as they deal with the various stakeholders involved in running an event on public roads.

Filming commences on February 1, 2013 and will be completed following the Gippsland 3 Day Tour in June.

Warragul Cycling Club is a great growth story, with greater than 50% increase in members in the past year. Warragul has an exceptionally large participation of women due to passionate community members driving this growth, which has resulted directly in Warragul achieving the third highest growth in women joining a cycling club in Victoria in the 2012 year.

Given the catchment areas of the large metropolitan Clubs in comparison to the Warragul Cycling Club this statistic is outstanding.

The Committee and Members of the Warragul Cycling Club are extremely pleased to promote Warragul and West Gippsland, its Club Members and its environs in such a unique way.
