Warragul cyclists were treated to fantastic conditions for racing, riding and skills enhancement this weekend with plenty of blue skies and mild breezes. In racing circles, the Buln Buln course attracted a strong field on Saturday afternoon, while the recreational riders enjoyed a pleasant cruise out to the Daisy Patch for coffee before leading Melbourne cycling skills coach Warren Cay took workshops on developing cycle skills and confidence.

Under Warren ’s tutelage, an enthusiastic bunch took to the velodrome and streets of Warragul, developing their skills and confidence in cornering, obstacles, riding with others and hill climbing techniques. Attendees at the workshop and their passion for recreational riding made a strong impression on Warren, who has promised to provide on-going support to the new arm of cycling in Warragul.

The next recreational ride event will be held on Sunday November 14 at 9am from the Warragul Velodrome, followed by a bike mechanics practical skills workshop run by members of the Warragul Cycling Club. Learn how to keep your bike out on the road and in good working order.

The weekend held many opportunities for local riders to partake in their own cycling action, with a recreational ride held on Saturday morning and local racing out at Old Sale Road in the afternoon. The recreational riding group enjoyed a pleasant, and at times, damp ride through the south-west regions of the Shire, stopping for coffee at the Daisy Patch before returning to Warragul via Lardner. Next Sunday the group will ride the same course in reverse, departing from the Velodrome at 9am. The recreational group is also hosting a skills day, hosted by Melbourne skills coach Warren Cay who will use a three-hour session to teach bunch riding skills, etiquette and confidence techniques. The course is suited to riders of all abilities. The session includes both theory and practice, and costs $10 for WCC members, and $20 for non-members. Lunch is included. Registration your interest through Bike Land on 5623 2398 or with Roy Hammond on 5622 0919.

The Club launch of the new recreational riding group will be held on Sunday October 3 rd from the Warragul Velodrome.

The group is a great way to meet and ride with others who have similar biking interests. Interested riders can receive assistance at the Velodrome with bike set-up, riding tips, and find out the benefits of joining the Club. 2005 Club membership and Cycle Australia ride licence signup opportunities will be available on the day, before the group embarks on their first recreational ride.

Three different rides will be on offer, depending on personal ability and fitness levels. Each group will meet for coffee at Darnum before finishing the ride back at the Velodrome.
