The Country Road Championships were held at the Puckapunyal Army Base on the Sunday with some of Warragul’s lesser known riders performing very creditably. Brett Miller finished in the first 10 of the juvenile two, 20 km event while Brian came in fifth in a bunch sprint in the Veteran One event over 60 km and Sue Van derveen an unlucky third in a controversial ladies 30km.
The best efforts were by Brett Williams and Aaron Nobelius in finishing seventh and eighth in a tight bunch in the 42 km juvenile one event won by Australian champion Randall McGregor. In differing riding styles, Brett worked his way up and down the bunch throughout the event while Aaron stayed in the leading six, watching for, and creating, quick surges. Both boys turned in excellent performances and were very pleased with their efforts.
Stuart Cuckson also rode in that race and although losing the main bunch battled hard to lead in the second group of 10 in a field of 38.
