State Team Time Trial Championships

19/07/2009

Twelve representatives (one elite squad and two masters) competed in Victoria’s State Time Trial Championships at Miners Rest this Sunday.

Our elite team of Kane Walker, James Henry, Brenton Jones and Callan Walker rode well to take out fourth. The fast pace blew Callan up so three were left to ride the final lap.

The group designated Warragul 2 consisted of Darren Williams, Paul Yeatman, Simon Baxter and Steve Muggeridge.  This team organized themselves by the first corner (~2.5km) the  settled into a decent rhythm.  Darren began to tire early while Steve and Paul powered along.  Soon after crossing the second railway (~17km), Darren dropped off and not long after turning into Ballarat Maryborough Road (~20km), Simon indicated his legs were cooked.  Steve was loving his aero helmet and rear disc and was happy to power along the home straight swapping turns ever so often with Paul.  Up the only hill of the course, Paul set the pace making sure to keep Steve and Simon with him.  A fast run up to the final corner saw Simon hit the lead for the final 100m.  In the end this team came 11th out of 14 with an average speed of 36.8kph.

Warragul 1 comprised Shane Stiles, Phil Gallagher, Daryl Anderson and Thomas Sander.  This team powered along with Shane and Thomas feeling the best of the bunch.  As for the other team, this group lost a member (this time Phil).  At the end of their race, they’d placed forth, 10 seconds short of third place.

Given the small pool of riders our club has to choose from when compared to the much larger clubs, two forth placings and an 11th in the state is a good result.
