Criterium Race 7

05/12/2009

Report by Rob Monk

A grade saw the field split into two about halfway through with the four stronger riders comprising Brenton Jones, Kane Walker, Geoff Thomason and Chris Joustra getting a break on the remaining riders. Hard chasing saw the gap close to within 50 metres before it began to widen again. In the end Jones was the strongest with Walker second and Thommo third.

B Grade split into a lead group of four also. Matt Kennelly continued his good form to take out the win from Rob Monk and James Lalor in a 300m sprint to the line.

C Grade was a battle between Cyrus Monk, Paul Kennedy and Steve Muggeridge who finished the sprint in that order.

With one race to go it’s Cyrus Monk and Matt Kennelly on equal first (42 points) followed by James Lalor (38) and Ken Whittaker (32). The top three have raced 6 races – Matt has 4 wins, Cyrus and James have 3 each. In the Master 1,2 3 section of the Tour of Bright, Shane Stiles came in a respectable 13th place, a tad over 10mins off the pace of winner Michael Tolhurst (05:15:02.66)

Report from the Webmaster

100km on the day before the race in this case equalled being dropped at 12 minutes and lapped at 50 minutes.  My race wound up being a 40 minute time trial.  I love A grade!
