09/12/2013

Young Warragul Cyclist Cyrus Monk took out the biggest win of his short career last weekend by winning the C grade section of the Tour of Bright. This win also meant Cyrus won the C Grade Victorian Road Series championship.

There were over 600 entries to the tour of Bright. Cy was competing against 74 other riders in C Grade. After the Friday time trial Cy was in 7th position. He was a minute and 40 seconds behind the leader.

Saturday’s Gaps Loop Road stage was 96km long and finished on top of Toowonga Gap. Toowonga gap is an 8km long climb. Cy broke away from the field with 2km to go and went on to win the stage. This gave him a 7 second lead in the tour.

Sunday’s stage was simple. Start at Bright and ride to the top of the highest mountain in Victoria, Mt Hotham. Cy again won the stage after breaking away with 5km to the finish.

He won the Victorian Rd Series by finishing second in the Baw Baw Classic, third in the Stratford to Dargo and first in the Tour of Bright.
