On Sunday the BRCC hosted the Gippsland Road Championships. This was a very poorly attended race with 4 riders in the main event. Kane Walker won in a time of 2:39:48 for the 90km course from Jarrod Peachy and Chris Joustra.
In the support races (45km), Paul Yeatman set the pace for the first 7-8km in the Masters 1-3 event. He was then dropped by all but one rider on the main nasty hill (a 22% incline according to his computer), a strong chase saw him catch the two riders ahead of him about 1km before Stockdale Fernbank Road and with the help of Glenn Schoer, the Wellington rider ahead of them. Once this happened, no help was to be had and despite this, he almost caught the the two remaining riders ahead of the bunch who finished 22 seconds ahead (Daniel Gaffa, 1st and Dave Arnup, 2nd). The winner’s race time was 1:17:42.
In the under 19 race, James Lalor took a break from his year 12 studies to take 2nd place.
