Lilydale To Warburton Rail Trail Outing

05/03/2012

On Sunday, 10 intrepid ‘Ride-It’ members made the journey to Mt Evelyn to ride the Lilydale – Warburton rail trail. When they met at the Velodrome at 8.00am they were greeted with a dismal overcast sky with light showers.  Trusting their faith in the weather forecast of moderating conditions, and after some minor detours around Mt Evelyn, the four car loads of members duly found themselves at the railway station site.

After a very pleasant ride of 33 ks the group arrived intact at Warburton, hungry but in high spirits.  At this time the one and only shower of rain fell which was of no concern to the group who were comfortably ensconced in a cafe, quaffing their delicious mid-day repast.  The return journey proved a little more taxing but was well within the capabilites of the riders.

The trip was a remarkable milestone for young Jordan Smith who managed to complete the round trip of 66 ks which was more than three times the longest distance he had ever ridden before.  Well done!  A post ride coffee and a safe trip home finished off a most enjoyable day.

The next ride for the group is next Saturday (12th) commencing at 2pm from the Velodrome.
