2007 Bush Crits – Race 1

02/12/2007

Low numbers of racers saw two grades compete in calm and warm weather in the first of Warragul Cycling Club’s “Bush Crits”.

C grade included the juniors and began shortly before B grade. The 6 or so C grade riders stayed together for a few laps, before Karen Munroe split the field.  She went on to win.

Under instructions from commissaire Ross Henry, the races began at a leisurely pace in order to get riders accustomed to the corners. Lap 5 was the fastest for B grade with an average speed of 38.5kph. This was due to Yeatman who was happy to cruise along the back straight at 43kph. After 10 minutes of racing, the attacks began at the top corner for almost every lap until 10 minutes to go. Despite this, Yeatman was unable to break the field apart and began to rest up towards the end of the race to await the sprint. A few attacks, shared between Yeatman and Bailie also began at the bottom corner and generally ended before the start/finish line was crossed.

The race was completed in 34kph for the 40minutes. Dave Ballie got a break on everyone at the final corner and needed a hard chase in top gear by Yeatman who was able to chase him down. Steve Muggeridge finished fast but had to settle for third. Rob Monk was next followed by Callum Barker.
