The road racing last Saturday consisted of two events with riders time trialing individually over three kilometres and then following up with graded criteriums for 30 to 40 minutes.

Dave Redman produced the fastest time trial of the day, covering the short course in four minutes, 11.15 seconds which was over 3.5 seconds faster than the next riders Colin Aitken and Glen Beveridge.

The fastest B grade time went to Lindsay Radcliffe with 4.21.08 from Paul Yeatman and Brian Miller.

Anthony Radcliffe took out the C grade fastest with 4.27.02 and was followed by Murray Fenwick and Gerry Anfried.

Nobelius was the fastest juvenile rider taking 4.28.98 with Matt Miller going around in 4.32.82 while Ben Cumming had his first time trial and continues to show improvement.

The A grade criterium was raced over 27 kilometres with some erratic lap times coming through as riders attempted to increase the pressure with solid surges.  At the finish it was Darren Spiteri who sprinted hard at the 200 metre mark and fought on well to hold off a determined Geoff Thomson with Glen Beveridge a close up third.

The B graders lapped very quickly in the early part of their event and after 15 kilometres had only lost six seconds to the top bunch.  Their final charge again resulted in riders being spread across the road as they vied for the perfect run.  Across the line the old stagers Peter Finlayson and Ian and Brian Miller, after quiet time trials, proved too good for the other riders and finished in that order.

With a brilliant tactical move with half a lap to go, Anthony Radcliffe stole a break on his fellow C graders and despite getting the staggers, held on to take out the event.  Murray Fenwick came in second with Gerry Anfried third and Ian Fromholtz, showing a welcome return, just behind the bunch.

The juvenile riders again rode with the seniors and each performed well.  Nobelius finished just behind the place getters in B grade and Brett Miller, coming home very quickly, almost grabbed C grade victory with Travis Fromholtz a close up fourth in the same race.

Next Saturday, riding will take the form of graded scratch races over the longer journey as riders start to prepare for the upcoming winter road season.
