Victorian Country Championships

It was a busy day for Warragul cyclists on Sunday.  While the club conducted the 10th annual Ross Yeoman Memorial Handicap on the tough Jindivick circuit, six riders made the long trip to Colac for the Victorian Country Championships.

Most successful was Sarah Hill who finished second to top international rider Donna Rae-Salinski.

Third in the women’s race was Sue van Derveen from Warragul in her first title race.

This was an outstanding effort for the Warragul riders and indicates that the Warragul club is the strongest in country Victoria in the women’s division.

In the senior men’s race, Warragul’s Phil Gallagher was an unlucky fourth in a very tight sprint finish.

Phil had broken away earlier in the race and looked like taking out the title when he was caught right on the line.

Juveniles Wayne Kestle, Brad Lester and Scott Foster all competed in their division finished seventh, ninth and 11th respectively.
