Gippsland 3 Day Tour Wrap Up

Brenton Jones took out the tour for the third year in a row in what began as a wet tour and ended in sunny conditions.

This year the race began and ended on the same course at Willow Grove – great for the climbers, not so much for the flat road lovers.

Warragul again won the teams classification. We had a over 20 riders contesting the tour across all the grades.

A Grade Wrap

Brenton Jones won all four stages, though he had to share with Daniel Gaffa on stage four due to a dead heat. Jarryd Jones came 2nd in stage three and four.

BJ won the sprint comp and the KOM. JJ came 3rd in the sprint comp.

Only 15 minutes separated first from last overall.

B Grade Wrap

Had B grade been decided on time rather than points, things would have been interesting with breaks winning all mass starts. The bunch was happy for one or two riders to set the pace for the most part and only perked up when sprint or KOM points were on offer. No one appears willing to do much in the way of chasing until the final stage.

Cyrus Monk was the best performed, coming in second place overall. Cy also bagged the sprint and KOM competitions. Leigh Hauxwell claimed third overall and in the KOM. Paul Yeatman came second in the sprint comp.

Hauxwell came second in stage one. Paul Yeatman was the best Warragul time trialist, but could only manage a third. In stage three, a two man break saw Warragul bag some points and a late four rider break allowed Yeatman to claim first from Rob Monk.

Stage four was a little slower than stage one and here, Charles Davine claimed second.

C Grade Wrap

Jayden Manintveld is one to watch out for with a second overall and a second in the KOM.

Stage one saw Graeme Patrick claim third. Manintveld came second in the TT and also in the final stage.

D Grade Wrap

Clint Wilson lead the Warragul charge with a first overall and second in the sprint and KOM points. He also won stage two and four and came third in stage three.

Andrew Gordon won the opening stage from Paul Kennedy.

With some fine performances over the weekend, the handicaper will have fun with this weekend’s Cloverlea handicap.
