Wet Crit Racing

29/11/1992

By Geoff Cuckson

On Saturday the rain once again made racing difficult but never the less four races were run.

Scott Keeble took out the Three Lap Juvenile Handicap from Jason Boxall with Stephen Byers third.  All the juvenile riders are doing a great job and should mature into first class riders.

Seven C grade riders raced a 30 minute plus one lap Criterium.  Travis Fromholtz comfortably won from Ian Fromholtz. with Sue Van derveen third.  Anthony Vogrig, Peter Bailey,  Matthew Malacame and super vet Ted Dunn all raced very well in the C grade event.

A good field of B grade riders raced for 30 minutes and three laps.

Brett Williams proved  too strong in a spirited sprint and just held out a fast finishing Brad Clarke with Grub Melnyk third, Stuart Cuckson fourth, Rowen Watts fifth and Paul Yeatman sixth.  The winner’s time was 45 minutes and 56 seconds.

Twelve A grade riders also raced for 30 minutes and three laps.  Wayne Kestle on his training bike had a narrow win from Garry Jackson with Phil Gallagher third, Darren Spiteri fourth, Jeff Thomson fifth and Colin Aitken sixth.  Wayne’s winning time was 45 minutes even only 56 seconds faster the B grade ride.

Wilf Tampaline of Drouin Cycles donated the spot prizes this week.  Wayne Kestle won the $10 voucher and Jason Boxall the $5.  Other riders won packets of sports drinks, thank you  Wilf.

Next Saturday is the final event in the well attended spring series.  Geoff Cuckson has put a lot of effort into promoting the series and has asked for a big turn out for the final event.

The track open on Saturday December 12 is drawing close and club president Paul Rowse is asking for members to be generous with their time to try and make this event a big success.  Geoff and Sue Cuckson are riding in the Great Victorian Bike Ride and the club wishes them all the best for their cycling adventure.
